Welcome To Foodie Adventure Japan
Your guide to Japan’s incredible food scene and travel experiences

From Street Snacks to Hidden Shrines
We started as Tokyo’s top-rated sustainable food tour—but when the world changed, so did we. Now, we’re serving up insider guides, stories, and tips to help you explore Japan’s food and culture, wherever you are.
We started as Tokyo’s sustainable food tour company, but the pandemic changed everything. When we had to pause our walking tours, we discovered something unexpected – our community kept growing, and we realized we love helping people discover Japan through guides and recommendations just as much as we did through in-person tours.
So here we are – still the same food-obsessed, sustainability-focused team, just sharing our knowledge in a different way while we focus on building our content and community.
We’re still all about finding the craziest bites Tokyo has to offer (rainbow cotton candy, anyone?), discovering hidden temples between ramen stops, and supporting small businesses over big chains. That hasn’t changed. What’s changed is how we share it with you.

What We're About
We believe travel should be good for everyone – visitors, locals, and the planet. That’s why we focus on:

Small businesses first
Family-run shops, local artisans, and neighborhood gems over chains

Sustainable travel
Respecting cultural traditions and traveling responsibly

Real experiences
The quirky, traditional, and unknown sides of Japan that guidebooks miss
Meet Gizem
The Face Behind Foodie Adventure Japan
I’m a German national with Turkish roots who’s been calling Japan home since 2015. My Japan story started when I fell head over heels for this country while working at a ski resort in Niigata’s snowy mountains in 2013.
But the real beginning? A healthy diet of 1990s after-school anime, cheap cup ramen, and a burning wish to immerse myself in a completely new culture.
Foodie Adventure Japan came from a specific problem I kept hearing about – travelers with dietary restrictions couldn’t fully enjoy the beauty and uniqueness of Japanese food. Running two guesthouses in Tokyo helped me understand what people actually needed and wanted from their Japan food experiences.
What drives my approach is thinking outside the box and finding practical solutions with a can-do attitude. I’m passionate about environmental conservation, inclusion of marginalized communities, and creating win-win situations. I love helping remote areas find practical ways to showcase their assets.
My multilingual background (German, Turkish, English, and Japanese) gives me a deep understanding of intercultural communication – both its challenges and advantages. This perspective shapes how I connect travelers with authentic Japanese food culture.

What makes us different:
- We've served over 500 travelers from every corner of the world
- We always choose small family-run businesses over chains (even though chains would be easier!)
- We're constantly exploring - from elegant kaiseki-ryōri to the latest convenience store finds
- Building a community of Japan food lovers who share authentic discoveries
- Creating honest guides that go beyond the typical tourist spots
- Sharing sustainable and inclusive travel approaches
What's Next?
