Foodie Japan 2020: Looking Back & What’s to Come

We’ve all heard the words used to describe 2020– unpredictable, challenging, extraordinary. It has certainly been all of these things, but it’s also been an innovative, exploratory, eye-opening year.

As we approach the end of 2020, we’re sharing our favorite articles and accomplishments as well as what to expect in 2021.

Best of Foodie Japan 2020

While we didn’t have the tour-filled year we were hoping for, we still were able to accomplish a lot. We launched Foodie Wear Japan, Gizem started her Twitch streaming shows, and we grew our Instagram family to over 3500 foodies!

We also published 49 blog posts mostly around Japan’s vegan scene and sustainable living.

At the beginning of the year, we were able to try new vegan places and options like Superiority Burger and our first all-vegan convenience store.

Then the pandemic hit and the situation got worse.

From March through August, we wrote blogs about vegan takeout options, restaurants with outdoor seating, and youtube channels to binge at home.

We also reviewed the vegan options at many of Tokyo’s most popular grocery stores such as Hanamasa, Kaldi, Seijo Ishii, and Gyomu.

We’re suckers for lists and rankings, so we also did a few articles about our favorite vegan meals, burgers, ramen, and cosmetics brands.

Goals and Plans for 2021

Let’s start with the big news.

We have made the difficult decision to put a pause on the Foodie Japan Blog for the next few months.

It has been so much fun writing #meatlessmonday blog posts every week. However, the best way forward is to focus our energy on creating even more resources to make vegan travel easier.

This includes single and multi-day itineraries, our apparel brand Foodie Wear Japan, and revamped vegan tours.

As the vegan scene in Japan continues to expand, we will keep sharing information on our Instagram. Feel free follow us there (@foodieadventurejapan).

We are so grateful and honored that you have taken the time to read our posts every week. We hope we can continue to be a guide for inclusive, sustainable travel.

And with that, have a fantastic 2021. Be well, eat well, and you will hear from us again soon.

Love,

The Foodie Japan Team
